The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, in effect for tax years 2018-2025, changed taxes significantly, and then came the pandemic and various new acts. In order to properly prepare returns we require 2019 and 2020 tax returns as those years figures may affect your 2021 tax return. Stimulus money or Advanced Child Tax Credit received is NOT TAXABLE, but we must input the amounts on your tax return, so please bring in your IRS letter(s) showing the amount of Stimulus and/or Advanced Child Tax Credit received. You should verify the amount shown on the IRS letter, and if you don’t have the letter, you can create an account with IRS so you can access your tax information on your own, at any time.
The above are only a few changes, there are so many, to condense: Child & Dependent Care Credit is refundable. Earned Income Credit for those WITHOUT children has a lower age limit, and there is no longer a maximum age limit, which is big help for many individuals. Business Meal deductions can be 100% deductible, we will see if you qualify. There’s an above the line deduction for charitable donations that was maximum $300 on the 2020 return, and now $300 per taxpayer for 2021 (max $600). We still have the American Opportunity and Lifetime Learning Credits, but lost the Tuition and Fees Deduction which wasn’t used as often.

IRS will begin accepting tax returns the end of January each year.  To avoid delays please gather your tax information and contact us so we can begin to prepare your tax return as soon as possible, and transmit your return the minute IRS allows. This year the deadline for filing your taxes is April 18th.
Beginning in 2017, a new law approved by Congress requires the IRS to hold refunds on tax returns claiming the EITC or the ACTC. The IRS must hold the entire refund — even the portion not associated with Earned Income or Additional Child Tax Credit — until mid February, releasing refunds usually by end of February.

We began requiring appointments in 2020 as our office is small and noone wants to wait for a long time in a packed office. In order for us to do your taxes, we request you bring with you the following: Tax Appointment Checklist

Health insurance is no longer a requirement beginning 2019. Please visit healthcare.gov for more information. If your employer provided health insurance or you purchased it on your own you may receive a Form 1095-B or 1095-C. If you obtained health insurance through the Marketplace you should receive form 1095-A. We MUST have your form 1095-A in order to complete your tax return.  IRS will not process a return without that form. Please bring insurance cards for all individuals claimed on your return.

No time to wait?  Just drop off your information, we have a drop off/pickup window on the side of our building which makes that easier. You can also fax information to us at 904-693-3373.
